“Career Pathways - Exploring Opportunities Abroad" - that is the name of the project which was awarded a prize in January 2017 in the regional competition “passt! – Innovative Career Orientation". The German Children and Youth Foundation and the Nikolaus Koch Foundation in Trier sponsored the competition.
The goal of our project is to add the aspect of career planning to the long-standing exchange program with the two partner schools in Wisconsin. This means that we would like to support German students from Thomas-Morus-Gymnasium Daun and American students from Grafton High School and Lomira High School to take part in a shadowing program abroad.
At Thomas-Morus-Gymnasium Daun, internships in the Daun area are currently a part of the school curriculum in Grade 9. With our project "Career Pathways", it will be possible for upper-level students to gain insight into the working world in the U.S. and Germany by participating in a long-term shadowing program.
The data bank enables parents and students to locate companies in the Daun area and in Wisconsin willing to take students who would like to participate in such a program. A filter based on sector makes it easier to find an appropriate placement.
The project "Career Pathways – Exploring Opportunities Abroad“ enables students following graduation to gather international experience in a career they are interested in at an earlier point in their lives. Participating in a long-term job shadowing program in the context of this project would not cost anything in contrast to working with commercial enterprises. The participating students would also be supported by the project leaders of the partner school, also with regard to finding host families and accommodations.
